We always love branching out our skill sets into multiple areas of the industry. This time we were assisting Andrew Monte from Monte Productions with a TeleVision Commercial (TVC) that would be aired for the Big W Group. The requirements were to master two different lengths of the product that must adhere to the Australian Broadcast Loudness Standards (Set out in OP-59 for those interested). Using a meter that conforms to ITU-R BS.1770-3 allows us to obtain a quantitative measurement of the loudness of a soundtrack in LKFS. As per the OP-59 standards, we were able to achieve an LKFS value of -24 with a True Peak limit of -2dBFS. Mastering to these standards is designed to enable normalization of audio levels for delivery of broadcast TV so that program material remains at a relatively consistent volume.
